Writing from the Finished Work

For much of my Christian life, my prayers sounded like this:

“God, I want to be closer to you.”
“I want my life to be pleasing to you,”
“I want to be radically set apart for You.”

It sounds beautiful, right? My intentions are so pure, I just want more of Him. It is absolutely precious to Him. With the right heart posture, there is nothing wrong with praying like this because He knows what I mean.

And yet, as I continued to run at this pace, I heard the Holy Spirit say:

“Why are you asking for something that Jesus already gave you?”

I then picked up the pieces of religion that God had just shattered and walked in a slightly different direction, and that has truly made all the difference.
